The existence of children and adolescents who decide to leave their home and dare to cross borders is a very old phenomenon, even picked up (and almost excessively) in folk tales. One of these young migrants was my grandfather, who at the age of 16 left his native Reus behind to embark on “the Americas” in search of opportunities that his land was usurping. Times have changed, but migrations of children and young people under age are a phenomenon that continues to occur, especially in areas of unequal borders.
